Arangadal - 15th Festival of Theatre and Dance

This year's festival showcased 3 plays, a modern dance, and a poetry oration (கவி மொழிவு).

TTen Stanzas on Fall (முதுவேனில் பதிகம்)

The poetry oration, emphasizes with the reality that Canada is the land of our children and the need to embrace and celebrate that reality. The poems have been penned by Tamil-Canadian poet Thirumavalavan.





Infinite Zero (பூச்சிய பெருவெளி)

A satire that pokes fun at the urge of modern media to generate headlines out of nonsensical events and the tendency of politicians to manipulate those events to distract the public from real issues. The play is based on a short-story by renowned Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. It was adapted for stage by Tamil-Canadian playwright Cheliyan and is directed by Dushy Gnanapragasam.

Without Death and Birth (இறவாமல் பிறவாமல்)

Written by Tamil-Canadian playwright Sahapthan and is directed by S. Mathivasan. It explores the idea of suicide through the eyes of abused and disenchanted elders in a long-term care home.







Notes on Shaving (சவரக் குறிப்புகள்)



The play written by Cheliyan, based on a short story by Indian writer S. Ramakrishnan, is directed by A. Puranthagan. The play, Notes on Shaving (சவரக் குறிப்புகள்), is an absurd play where the protagonist looks at life itself as a play and treats everyone whom he encounters as characters in this play.





Buried Above the Ground (மண்மேல் தொலையும் வேர்கள்)

This dance takes the audience along a journey of a victim of Schizophrenia exploring the many facets within the person.
